I know you’re trying to be objective here, but I believe you’ve internalized a lot of the preconceptions surrounding the candidates.
There are two Elizabeth Warrens: the real person and the image of Elizabeth Warren in various representations / interpretations of the real person.
The real Elizabeth Warren was never muddled. The representation of her often was. Reporters and analysts fell back on the easy stereotype. They do the same with Sanders and Biden, but Sanders and Biden have manipulated the stereotype for their advantage, at least with their supporters (hard-core supporters in Sanders’ case, “decide at the last minute” soft supporters in Biden’s case). In general (I can’t say I’ve read every statement she or her team made) Warren refused to use the stereotype for her political benefit. What you saw was what you got.
The truth probably won’t hit the fan for another couple of months. Then people will use their newfound brush with reality to analyze the history that led up to their epiphany. And if history is any guide, they’ll ignore the unpleasant fact that they were at fault for believing the hype they were spoon fed, and they’ll blame Warren.
Elizabeth Warren didn’t fail us. We failed her.
