I knew we agreed on movies, but I had no idea we were this close politically (and a fellow Southerner as well).

When I was active on Facebook, I used to get into arguments with people I thought fellow liberals who objected to what they called "political correctness" because they felt it limited their free expression (nowadays the phrase "cancel culture" is used for the same purpose). The inherent irony is that the opponents of "political correctness" were objecting to someone else's right to call them out (i.e. they wanted to limit the "free speech" of their opponents).

If someone who is harmed by another's speech wants to organize a boycott (or ask a school administration to cancel a lecture they consider harmful, or whatever), that's their right. And the target of the boycott (or whatever) can also organize a boycott (or a reverse boycott or whatever). Nobody in this country has yet to assume the power of a Zhdanov to cancel free speech. If that were to happen, hopefully everyone would object. Even the NYT.
