I have to confess that I didn't follow up much on Wings / McCartney. I prefer this one to many of their better-known hits. McCartney as a solo artist often broadcasts his cleverness; here he's concealing it.

Rant: if some 90's Brit Popper had released this song, it would probably have been heralded as a brilliant tribute to the Beatles. Go figure.

Aside: Erlewine is in general a bit hard to predict, but fairly sound in his judgments.
