I don't think the villain wins in the book Murder on the Orient Express, but that is the case with the book Ten Little Indians, though one might argue that the murderer isn't the villain. The 1945 movie And Then There Were None directed by Rene Clair, written by Dudley Nicholls, doesn't follow the book's ending though. (I haven't seen the 2015 tv series.)
