I don't know German (I can translate a short passage using a dictionary), so I'm pretty much getting the feeling of the song through the music itself rather than the words--in this case mostly the pace or phrasing of the lists.

The topic of understanding the meaning of a song (to a limited extent) without knowing the language came up in another thread. I listen to Swedish and Brazilian songs fairly often and have to look up the lyrics, then use Google translate (I can read Portuguese a little). Normally the emotion I felt from the original listening is consistent with the text, but of course the meaning WITH lyrics is much more complex.

Annika Norlin of Hello Saferide and Sakert! made an interesting experiment by translating in a very literal way some of her Swedish lyrics into Swedish:
