I didn't know the Sugarland version (but I know the original single like the back of my hand). It isn't bad--certainly an improvement over the mainstream country music today--but it's the original song's bones that redeem the Sugarland performance.
I didn't know any of the background here, including the Nick Drake heritage. Many thanks for a loving profile.
You might like Bridget St. John (who did perform with Drake, and with Kevin Ayers). Folk that anticipates dream pop by a couple of decades.
