I always want Wes Anderson movies to be good, even when they aren't (and there are a few I have missed), but I mostly get pissed / happy when he raids my obscure personal playlists. So I checked out the soundtrack for Asteroid City--no Kinks or Nick Drake, but he has Les Baxter, the Fords (Tennessee Ernie and Mary), Eddie Arnold, Tex Ritter (I have to confess I'm not a big fan of Slim Whitman). If the movie is like the playlist, it'll be glossy and nostalgic without being incisive or revelatory. "O Brother Where Art Thou" brought bluegrass and Preston Sturges to the masses; After reading your review, I'm not counting on "Asteroid City" ("soundtrack so white") to enrich anyone's aesthetic.
