History (at least American historiography, with which I'm familiar) tends to portray struggles in binary terms--good vs. evil. Your story shows how it's dangerous to oversimplify the human struggle (which of course, and your story makes this clear) doesn't mean that there is no such thing as good vs. evil, just that anyone is capable of giving in to the dark side.
Lord Haw Haw is an example of an Anglo-American who supported the Nazis (and was executed for doing so after the war).
