But the reality is quite different.
Of course, the speaker (as in most of Annika Norlin's songs) is a fictionalized persona, and it should be clear to careful listeners that in spite of the song's bouncy beat, the writer is more in line with Brian Wilson's nostalgic / tragic view in "I Guess I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" than with the vacuous persona (who is proud she can quote from "High Fidelity"): "I won't commit to you, but I'll hold you when you cry." Now that's dark.
