Good MOR material and a better trumpeter than he had to be. I’m nostalgic about his stuff and have picked up a number of his albums on the cheap.

Check out Doc Severinsen (yes, Johnny Carson’s bandleader) and Sy Zentner from the same period for popular instrumentalists who were doing something more ambitious.
