I'm planning to read / listen to the entire series in one fell swoop. Until then, here's a band I knew about but which I didn't think of as surf rock, which I just discovered is apparently classified as that: namely Dan and Dale.
Spoiler: there is no Dan and no Dale. Their main album, based on the then popular theme from the Batman TV show, was actually put together by members of the Sun Ra Arkestra and Al Kooper's Blues Project (which has to go down as one of the most bizarre of collaborations in the popular music field).
