For me personally, this album is a high water mark, and your discussion is as always a very nice review / intro / reflection.

I saw Janis a year or two later at the Atlanta Pop Festival with her Full Tilt Boogie band, and I have to say that I didn't care for the new style--not enough contrast between the band and the singer. (There were scads of horn-based bands in the lineup, including Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears. Not rock, not jazz, not fusion--in my biased opinion just a mess.)
