For a historical script to sound authentic, it has to sound authentic, not be authentic.

The King James (1611) translation of the Bible uses the work "piss' (actually "pisseth"). But if a character in a film set in the 17th century used the word "piss," it would probably sound inauthentic. Similar problem with dialects and accents.
