How Betsy DeVos Will Shred Public Education and Most Private Education: Part 2a
Introduction
Under the banner of School Choice, Betsy DeVos has proposed drastic steps toward what she calls educational reform. Whether or not she believes her own hype (to be determined later), the overall effect of her programs will be to finish bricking up the wall that separates America’s two educational tiers.
The two tiers are not College vs. Vocational.
Those two tiers are not People of Color vs. White People.
The two tiers are not Women vs. Men.
The two tiers are not Public vs. Private.
The tiers are not Secular vs. Religious.
When the DeVos Agenda is realized, one tier will serve the wealthy and the other tier will serve up everyone else.
The purpose of the two-tier system is to end upward mobility. It’s the death knell for the American dream of equality of opportunity.
