"Everybody Knows" is a seminal record for me; I love the slightly country songs on there but not as much as the typically angsty Young songs. I don't recall anything particularly country / rootsy on the Neil Young Buffalo Springfield contributions (that would be Richie Furay), but "Broken Arrow" could have sounded country if Young had used a pedal steel instead of Don Randi's grand piano--the ethos of the song, if not the arrangement, is C&W.
I've always enjoyed and learned from your NY introspectives, and this one is no different. Looking forward to the new series of "artists whom we consider “Rockers” but who have also mined deeply into their country roots." May I suggest Paul Siebel as a candidate? (He may be considered more of a folk singer, but he has a rock and roll heart.)
