Even if there is no physical violence, no armed revolution, from the anti-democratic forces (I won't call them conservatives or Republicans--their roots of their agenda run far deeper than political partisanship--some Bernie Sanders supporters made death threats against Democratic officials during the 2016 primary, by the way), we have entered an era where harassment, death threats, rape threats, and invasion of privacy are used as tools of oppression with a renewed vengeance.
(African-Americans are familiar with these tactics of intimidation--they've been used since Reconstruction, often condoned and legitimized by ostensibly responsible leaders--if only by silence, which intentionally magnifies the damage of the barely concealed belligerence.)
I'm less worried about a more competent Trump-like leader in politics; I'm worried about the followers, who have learned how to stoke their own flames, and I'm worried that so many elected officials are willing to exploit the rage for their own benefit.
This is going to be a long slog.
