BritPop was years after my favorite decades, but I always appreciated the spirit. As you point out, the Kinks (my favorite band) were a major influence. Thank you for this very interesting and illustrative article.
Incidentally, the first band to use the term "Cool Britannia" was, I believe, The Bonzo Dog Band (my second favorite British group) on their first album, "Gorilla," in 1967 (the album also furnished the name for the Bellingham indie band Death Cab for Cutie).
Even more relevant to Britpop, Neil Innes of the Bonzos (sometimes called the 7th Python for his work on the Rutles and other collaborations) wrote "How Sweet to Be an Idiot," which influenced or was ripped off by Oasis (you be the judge) as "Whatever."
In addition to Innes' work on the Rutles, the earlier Bonzos skewered classic Beatles-era pop on "Fresh Wound."
