Boatload of 90's here.

Major Lance--this is what soul music does best. I'm wondering if Barbara Mason's immortal "Yes I'm Ready" is not perhaps a response to this song. 92

Miracles: Smokey makes it seem so effortless. 94

Ray Price: Burning Memories initiates Price's Countrypolitan final phase (the title track hints that he's burning up the memories of his honky tonk past). It's a great song by practically any standards, but I'm holding out for "Release Me" from the same album--one of my father's favorites. 94 Check out the coverage by AllMusic's best reviewer Thom Jurek: https://www.allmusic.com/album/burning-memories-mw0000893354#review

Not many people may realize this, but Price returned briefly to his honky tonk roots in 1964/5 with the album "The Other Woman." It's as though like a forbidden lover, honky tonk music (including a Willie Nelson classic, "Funny How Time Slips Away"--one of Price's best, damn it's good) lured him back from his comfortable countrypolitan ways.

Skeeter Davis: What can I say--it's the perfect coincidence of writing, performing, and arrangement. In researching Skeeter, I've been surprised that she never reached this pinnacle again. Oh well, we should be grateful for the blessings that we have.95
