As I mentioned elsewhere, I was taught by a high school teacher who believed in the Dunning School of Reconstruction history ("The Tragic Era" by Claude C. Bowers, which was somewhat sympathetic toward Andrew Johnson as a supporter of the Southern cause). Nowadays, it's the Dunning-Kruger school.
