At that time, I'm not sure if any one song did for me what Penny Lane did for you. I was too young and unformed. Walrus is my favorite from that album nowadays, but who knows what I thought back then.
Re "Song Seeds" as opposed to personal favorites: now in my old age, if you told me that in 2024 I had to choose between eliminating from history each single favorite song from every single favorite band of mine (e.g. "Waterloo Sunset"), versus eliminating Strange Fruit, I'd opt to preserve Strange Fruit. I think it's that important--not for me personally, but for the world.
