As you know, country of origin and time of entry can have significant impacts on political affiliation. In my limited experience, first and second generation Cuban Americans in the 60s and 70s tend to be more educated and more conservative than other emigres, perhaps because of their reasons for fleeing Castro’s regime. Columbian Americans differ from Central and Caribbean Americans. And so on. I haven’t seen much effort by Democrats (and certainly not Republicans) to address separately the needs and philosophies of each group. Instead, politicians slap a single label on all Hispanic Americans. The growing cynicism toward political parties is hardly surprising.
