As far as the Kinks are concerned, you can fix that problem fairly cheaply (I don't know about the Nina Simone)--it's been reissued as an LP; you should be able to find a newish one for about $20 or less--some of the tracks on the mono version are mixed differently, for what that's worth.
Face to Face is a candidate for first rock concept album--it's more of a consistent mood / theme rather than a unified narrative, but I think it's more important as the first album for adults. There's not a trace of teenage angst anywhere. Themes include perception, memory, loss. There's nothing like it in the first 100 on that list.
As far as the worst goes, I liked the Who but never bought one of their albums (except for Quadrophenia a few years ago at a thrift store), and given the strengths of the other 99 choices (some of which I'm familiar with in name only--btw, the surprise standout is Chico Buarque at 43), A Quick One is probably near the bottom. Compare "Happy Jack" with "Sunny Afternoon" from Face to Face, for example. I would place Strangers in the Night below A Quick One, however. Sinatra at his worst, imo.
