As a pessimist, I've tended to believe the Civil War / Democracy is on the verge of collapse stories in my newsfeed. But you've out-pessimisted me here, and you're probably right.

We won't have a Civil War because the oligarchy won't make any money off it. (The actual Civil War may have been a battle between two competing oligarchies, which is a different thing.)

But I think we'll see an upsurge in craziness and anti-rationalism. There's lots of money to be made by creating a nation of suckers.
