Another facet of a complex and fascinating person--thank you for this thoughtful tribute.

An aside: I understand why some people may want to dismantle the monarchy and/or the commonwealth. (I don't have a strong opinion either way, but it's fine with me if these institutions continue to evolve rather than being eliminated at one fell swoop.) But I don't understand the defiant public refusals to mourn the death of the Queen because of political differences. It seems to me that such a choice is a personal decision, not one to be broadcast as a sort of broadside. What does such a post do to redress the wrongs of imperialism?

Another aside: I don't know what sort of agendas Charles III has in terms of systemic racism / ethnocentrism etc., but I doubt that any victims of historical and remaining abuses of power will be better off under the new monarch, who is in essence more of a spokesperson than a political leader. It seems to me (from the wrong side of the pond) that anyone objecting to the monarchy would be more effective in examining / discussing the viewpoints and philosophies of the PM and Parliament.
