The press is dangerous. We don’t have freedom of the press in this country.
Am I the only person to find this sequence of sentences Orwellian?
First, Trump complains that the press is too free (i.e. they can make up anything they want to — which should impress Trump and his media cohorts like Fox and Alex Jones, since making up stuff is their mainstay), and then he complains that there is no freedom of press in this country.
So we would have freedom of the press only if the media were restricted by government to praising / agreeing with the Republican agenda.
Apparently Trump wants us to adopt old-school Soviet journalism: “There is no pravda in Izvestia, and no izvestia in Pravda” as the joke went. Except it’s not funny when it’s being proposed for our own country.
