All of these except 3 are myths (even for academic writing).

3 is an option for real world writing. In humanities academic writing, the thesis norm appears at the end of the introduction. In scientific writing, the hypothesis and findings are normally included in an abstract at the beginning. Suspense is not commonly a goal of academic writing.

In the real world, it’s possible to specify the thesis in the opening and still create suspense.

E.g.: “Conservatives are often the biggest sources of deficit spending. But aren’t they supposed to be balanced budget hawks?”
