All I wanted was a Hollywood experience and found the series okay. For political complexity you’d have to go with someone like le Carre as you suggest or Costa Gavras. For authenticity there are some good from Central and South America going back decades.

Most Hollywood political thrillers tend to be somewhat right wing and xenophobic. The second season was more palatable for me when I pretended it was an allegory about Trump and amoral Senate.
