A real treasury of griots.
I love Haki Madhubuti's tribute poem to Gwendolyn Brooks (might have been published under Don L. Lee--senior memory excuse).
As a fan of Neruda, you might also like the Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo--in his later poems more overtly conscious of class and privilege. It's been a while since I've read him, but this is one of my favorites:
