A nice tweet storm. I have a slightly different take on the Goldman quote. It's not that "nobody knows anything." Lots of people know lots of things But if they think that their hard-won knowledge of screenwriting will predict whether a particular script will succeed as a movie, they're deluding themselves. There are just too many unknowns (which is a good thing in many ways). I think most writers need less knowledge (from the advice factory (Snyder, McKee, etc.) and more intuition to guide their choices in the development of a story.
