A most enjoyable review.
In 1973, Caravan released an album of some of their previous songs but with an orchestra as well. Here's the original of "For Richard" (which is beautifully arranged with the simple ensemble of keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and flute / saxophone): https://youtu.be/CcxS-HU2qH

Each version has its unique charms, but I lean toward the simpler original.
