A fine analysis. I certainly hope there's a revival of intelligent feature-length thrillers.
Budgeting itself seems to be a promotional strategy for producers--e.g. the hype preceding Avatar 2 or Citadel; the message seems to be "the bigger the budget the better the film." There's an inverse strategy for low-budget films as well ("Made on a shoestring" etc.) But how do you promote mid-budgeting?
How would you classify something like Parasite? I.e. is there a mid-budget aesthetic apart from the actual cost of the film?
