A couple of months ago, when I was buying my usual cheap gin in the local liquor store, the proprietor who, I believe, is from India or Pakistan, was listening to a singer who was quite enthralling, even though I didn't know the language (two quarters of Sanskrit in college was no help). I learned the singer Fateh Ali Khan (I had to guess at the spelling / transliteration when I got back home--he was a real discovery.

Fateh Ali Khan has shown up twice so far in the top 100 Best Albums, as referenced in the Worst of the Best by Terry Barr.
