97 to everybody
Back then (I was 5 in 1955), a lot of songs held on for several years (like "Only You" or "Ain't That a Shame"), as opposed to today when hits disappear in a matter of weeks (rightly so in many cases).
"In the Jailhouse Now" was a favorite of my father's (see David's comment--it was probably because of the Jimmie Rodgers original), along with "Down in the Valley," "Further Along," and "Worried Man Blues."
There were several versions of "Cerezo Rosa"--translated as "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White"--but this particular Perez Prado has more oomph. The album in the YouTube picture includes Mambo 5, which was a big hit (and a crappy one in my opinion) for Lou Bega.
Nice year in which to have been conceived. Looking forward to the birth year next.
